With news that the war in Europe was finally over, millions across the continent took to the streets in celebration - most notably in London where a jubilant crowd of over a million stretched all the way up the mall from Trafalgar Square to Buckingham Palace. There King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, accompanied by the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, appeared on the balcony to greet them. In cities, towns and villages across Britain spontaneous street parties were held with much singing, dancing and revelry.
The evocative image on this collectors' box is after 'VE-Day Celebration' by the renowned Yorkshire-born artist, Kevin Walsh, and brilliantly conveys the atmosphere of the time.
