There are an estimated 30,000 orang-utans left on the Malaysian Islands of Borneo & Sumatra. Of all the great apes Orang-utans are the most arboreal. It is rare for an adult to ever touch the ground. With an arm span of 8 feet and strong hands they are supremely adapted to life in the trees. The Orang-utan is endangered due to plantations, logging & poaching for the pet trade. They are disappearing at a rate of 2,000 individuals a year.
