The name "Panda" means "bamboo eater". This charismatic animal is one of the most popular in the world, unfortunately it is also one of the most endangered. It is estimated that as few as 1,000 remain in the world today mainly in Western and central China. Pandas are solitary animals, living to an age of 20 and weighing between 220 & 330 pounds. Oandas are endangered because of habitat loss and destruction of their food source. They are dying out because of starvation.
